Reference only some objects in a scene

Hi, I have a quick question about reference.
Can you select certain objects in a scene and have them be refrenced?
I don't want all the objects in the scene to be referenced, but some of them.

Short answer, no.

You can export specific parts of a file to their own file and reference those alone.

If you reference a bunch of assets into a scene you can turn off individual assets in the reference editor.

Or you can just bring in an entire scene then hide the object you didn't want. I do this often enough

Think of references as completed assets.
