topic How to mirror group without combine in Maya Forum

Hi, I'm creating model of a car, I have half of it done, grouped together with subgroups (tires, light, window etc for assigning materials later) and now I want to mirror it - but when i just select whole group and try to mirror it, it will mirror only the first polygon object which is in outliner. Only way I managed to mirror it, was with using combine on whole group and then mirror geometry, but it will break all my groups, so I would have to make them all again and twice with both sides of car. I also tryed combine, mirror and then separate, but it just made 1200 separate polygons in outliner.. so Am I missing some obvious solution how to do this?

Instead of selecting the group header itself, you can expand the group and then shift+select the items, then do your Mesh->Mirror Geometry. (Note that that will combine the mirrored objects with the existing ones...not sure if that is okay with you or not.)

Edit: Also, you could select the group header and do Edit->Duplicate Special.

Just select the group, duplicate, and scale in whatever axis you want to flip it to a negative of the same value

E.g if you want to flip a group along the X axis I would generally freeze the transforms of the group and just make the x scale of the second group -1
