even if you solved it for the moment i think the solution (rotating then freezing) is not convincing in a lot of situations. so a screenshot of the object and it´s hirarchy in the outliner could still help to find a more general approach.

First off, i've seen just about every tut on pivots i can get my hands on it seems, but what i haven't found is how to center an object's pivot after it's been, say, cut in half (i.e. after deleting half of it). I've tried everything (like hit "Center Pivot" a hundred times) and the pivot manipulator stays or keeps going back to the original center point before it was cut in half, as if Maya still 'sees' the whole object.

I've tried deleting history and freezing transformations, yet nothing. Sure i could hit D and just drag or snap the pivot to the center, but that's not the point (NPI); besides, that would be hard to do if it was a complex object. So why is something so simple so hard to do in Maya? Much thanks to anyone for ANY help..

Shelton

Try using the "Reset" button in the move tool settings. (The one next to the Edit Pivot button.)

I don't have this issue in Maya2016. Did you grouped/parented the object before cutting out component?

You might try this, to help investigating the possible source of your issue: in the script editor, mel tab, with your object selected type and execute the following line:
CenterPivot;
then check and share with us the scritp editor feedback.

fingers crossed.

Same thing - pivot remains on one of the border edges and won't center. It's a simple object too (square cut in half diagonally, leaving a triangle) I've attached a screen shot. Thanks guys!

EDIT: I finally got it to center so i won't upload the screen shot. The only thing i did different was to simply rotate the object so the triangle looked like a pyramid, THEN hit freeze transforms, next the reset in move tool. Strange. I wonder if it's a glitch. Anyway thanks again.

Shelton

This worked for me after duplicating faces to a new object and the center pivot would not recenter.
