Maya 2016 student can't save scene/save scene as/export

Background

I seem to not be able to save any scene or export anything. Not just in Maya 2016 student, but all other Maya versions. Maya is installed on my desktop pc.

Additional note: I have tried Maya save scene on my laptop with slightly lower specs than my desktop pc - it works just fine.

A bit about my PC that has this problem
Windows 10 Home (64-bit)
Intel i7

16GB RAM

Nvidia GeForce GTX 970

Maya installed on SSD

Problem

I have installed Maya 2016 (student). I created a cube, and tried to save the scene as shown in the following screenshots. Note that I used a default workspace.

It does not show any result of saving the scene. I locate the destination folder, nothing is saved there. What could be the problem? And how else should i resolve this?

Steps taken that doesn't resolve this issue

- Reinstall/Repair Maya in wizard.

- Uninstall Maya completely. Install again.

- Set Project and specify my own location; still can't save.

- Restart PC.

- Clean install PC and install Maya.

- Carry out any/all updates (OS builds, graphics, drivers etc) that are prompted by my PC

- Pray for a miracle

I would like to apologize in advance if this has been raised and answered in some other thread as i might have overlooked it.

Solution

Ignore this thread. My problem has been fixed. I overlooked how Maya points to the wrong python folder, resulting in errors when launched. So to fix this I edited the Environment Variables of my pc and edit PYTHONHOME directory to Maya's specific python folder.

Now I can save and export as intended.
