I posted this is another thread:

In which version of XGen?

In the original version, it's not really possible to directly use one set of guides to drive another description. A workaround is to use guides derived from curves and maintain the dynamic link, then use the same curves to drive guides in other descriptions. This will give you multiple sets of guides following the same set of curves, but you have to shape the curves rather than the guides.

In the new interactive system, you can use one guide modifier to drive several descriptions by hooking up the guide modifers outpline data port to the inGuide data ports on other descriptions in the node editor

This way you can have several descriptions, each with their own guide modifiers, but with each modifier using only one set of guides.
