topic Maya 2017 (Update 3) - Command Line Render Broken in Maya Forum

At work we rely heavily on the "-im" flag which names your image file once it's rendered. This flag has worked completely fine up to version Maya 2016, but now it magically doesn't work in 2017 even with the Update 3 patch.

If we do not use that flag then images finish rendering, but if we do use that flag we get these sort of errors with no frames rendered:

Error: Line 0.35: Invalid use of Maya object "image-name-test".
// Maya exited with status 210

"image-name-test" is the value supplied to the -im flag. Keep in mind, we haven't changed anything with our pipeline and it just magically breaks now. I even tried testing this command option on previous versions of Maya and it works perfectly fine.

This is a serious issue as our pipeline requires that flag to work, and is pretty much the reason why we can't move up to 2017.

Can anyone else test this flag and see if they can reproduce the same issue?

We just ran into this same problem with Update 3. It was working fine for us in Update 2. We use the command line extensively to override file names when batch rendering. This is a pretty important thing problem that will hopefully be fixed very soon.

Today I noticed, that using preRender option also causes problems and crashes render.

Error: Line 0.31: Invalid use of Maya object "tmk_preRender".

"tmk_preRender" is just a simple test procedure:

global proc tmk_preRender() {
	print("\nPreRenderMEL\n");
	}

Do you have this kind of issue?

My configuration:

Maya 2017 Update 3

Linux 64bit

MtoA 1.4.2.1
