Unable to use Texture to Geometry at all

So I'm having some issues trying to get the Texture to Geometry function to work correctly. I've got an image that I'm trying to import into maya to turn into a 3d object, yet whenever I try and import the image using the texture to geometry option I get this error line:

// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2016/scripts/others/createTextureToGeom.mel line 130: Failed to convert texture!

I can't seem to find any solutions to the issue and was really hoping for some help. My settings for texture to geometry are still set to their defaults.

hello, try this:

first create a plane and select it , second run the texture to geometry command! should work

Maya needs a plane as a reference to generate the geometry

still i can't do this im using plane but still not work i saw same error every time
