Cannot open Maya 2012 Scene in Maya 2016 Extension 2 (Part 1)

Hello People. I have been battling an issue here. I am trying to open a Maya Scene that I modelled in Maya 2012 Software in Maya 2016 Software which is refusing to open, & the message below is stating the following:

("// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2016.5/scripts/others/performFileAction.mel line 374: The directory "C:/My Hard?/My Videogame Portfolio/Models/Environments/DavidI/scenes" is not valid.")

Am I opening the mb File in the wrong Software, since I am using a Maya Extension Software? Is this why it does not recognise the Maya File? Or is there another reason to this issue that is causing my File to be unrecognised?

I will attach Image Screenshots of me opening my Maya File, & the messages that I keep on receiving.

Hi!

Don't use special characters in your file paths like white space and â (and also not ?).

Try a new file path for your project and make sure you have full access (user rights) to this folder.

The scene may still not open or open correct because of the big changes between these 2 Maya versions.

Hi @Anonymous I believe this is happening because your folder name "My Hard?" Maya doesn't support the '?' character when looking for folders so if you change that you should be fine. Also be sure to set your project to the folder that holds your scene. Hope this helps 🙂

The thing is, I believe it is from my Folder that is called 'My Hard*', & it has a Dot on the top. I have tried to edit the Folder by getting rid of the Dot, & it keeps on giving me a message that the Folder, or File is open in another Program.

Hi!

'My Hard*' is not a good idea for a folder name.

As long as the folder or any other folder or file inside this folder is in use you cannot re-name it.

You may try re-booting the computer and then do the renaming as a first step after re-boot, but be aware that depending on the files you have inside this folder or some of the sub-folders that this action may break some functionality, for example a file-link will no longer work.

Creating a new folder, a new project and copying the needed Maya files is the most fast,easy and secure solution (at least as a first step to figure out if the folder-name is the problem).

@Anonymous thats definitely a good idea to move everything but that folder. You can also try going into Task Manager and killing all unnecessary processes and then try changing the name of the "My Hard*" folder. Still, moving everything to another folder should solve the issue.

@sean.heasley: It did eventually work. I copied the entire Original Folder where the Maya File is stored to another Destination, opened the Maya mb File from where I copied that Original Folder, & is showing perfectly. Thank you again for your assistance.

@mspeer: I wanted both of these open, to see if anyone will respond to my Requests.
