Maya 2016 Issues Mac: Unable to Read Externatl Hard Drive, Crashes

Issue: Maya 2016 continued to crash.

Process: Open Maya > Set Project > Open Project > Crash

Solution: Uninstalled Maya 2016, Reinstalled Maya 2016 Extension 2

New Problem: Maya 2016 opens, unable to read external hard drive

Computer: MacBook Pro 13-inch; Early 2011

RAM: 16GB

SSD: 750GB

Graphics: Intel HD 512MB

Processor: 2.3 GHz Dual Core i5

OS: OS X El Capitan, Version 10.11.6

What are my options? I also need Mental Ray to properly render my scenes.

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community! Does Maya just not recognize the external hard drive or is it crashing when you go to open a file? I would check to make sure you have all your drivers up to date and that your Mac isn't having any issues reading the external hard drive.

Both issues happened. Initially the computer crashed every time Maya 2016 was opened. I uninstalled Maya 2016 and reinstalled Maya 2016 Extension 2 for Mac. That is the version that does not read my hard drive at all. I can open a Maya scene from the Finder on the hard drive level, but I cannot Set nor Open a project from within Maya.

Can you see your external hard drive in other programs besides Maya or is Maya the only program having this issue?

I was able to view the external hard drive from other programs; however, it's not visible from within Maya 2016.
