mayabetch.exe cannot switch rendering layers.

I used mayabetch.exe to render an old Maya scene using the traditional render layer system. I switched to layer rendering using the "-preRender" parameter code, but the layer did not switch over and the rendering was still done on the default "dafultlayer" layer. Additionally, there was an error message in the command window stating "XX layer is not part of the rendering setup," How can this be resolved?

wondering if legacy rendering layer need the variable
MAYA_ENABLE_LEGACY_RENDER_LAYERS=enable

then try the cmds as you did before ?
