Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!

If you have a texture on a mesh and wish to see it you can hit the '6' key and that will display textures.

To import a texture into Maya all you have to do is Assign New Material->Lambert(or whatever Mat you want)->File. Then select the texture you wish to use.

This video is a good breakdown of how to apply textures and UV map a basic square!
