Hi @Kranos_Orphydian

That video I posted shows how to properly move and animate shaders and while they only show basic colors in the tutorial, you could substitute them with texture maps and alphas to mask parts of the texture and create the effect you're looking for.

I understand it may be a difficult process to simply recreate the effect in Maya but those videos should help you get started and have a fundamental beginning so you can tweak and change the effect to suit your needs.

If this still doesn't help solve your issue let me know and I'll see if I can find some more information and/or documentation to help you!

How to recreate this C4D material used in this biomedical animation tutorial?

he starts creating the material from 6:30 onward. Im mostly intrigued about what would be the counterpart of the Luminance channel of the C4D material system and the gradient he is using within this channel to driven that glowing stripes sliding animation ("3D-Spherical" gradient). He also did some layering directlyin this Luminance channel (I kinda like how this works in cinema 4d ideal for motion graphics project). I suppose that can be done with the layered shader or Mix shader ?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQ4b0uBK-lA&t=1s

thanks in advance!

Hi @Kranos_Orphydian

Generally this would be done by having a handful of textures/shaders set up and then key them at different values so they change during playback.

While it's not exactly what you're looking for, this is a short and sweet video that covers some basics to animating materials. You could use these steps and then apply masks or ramps so it moves across the mesh like in the video you shared!

well yeah I know we can animate all these stuff but I wonder how to achieve the same effect. I dont see something similar to that cinema 4d 3D gradient in the Maya ramp types (the circular ramp doesnt placed properly on my "cell" mesh like in the video. Also in cinema 4d you seem to be able to keyframe the whole gradient at once. Can we do that in maya without having to keyframe each color stop?

While I'm not 100% sure if you can key the entire gradient at once, there are ways with keying ramps to achieve the effect.

There is no 3D Ramp inside Maya, so it will be a lot harder to achieve the same effect in Maya.

Hi!

These are separate Attributes if you want to control them at once you have to do some sort of grouping first.

You can use "Driven Key", "Scripting" and maybe "Custom Attribute" for easier control.

Hi!

It's the same as in Cinema 4D.

Maybe i understood you not correct. My suggestion where for a better control of multiple color values at once.

If you only want to set a key for all values at once, just set/add them to Keyable in the Channel Control of Channel Editor, then just with hitting hotkey "S" all values will be keyed at once.
