Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!

Yes you are totally allowed and we encourage you to use Maya for contests!

You only need to worry about subscriptions and owning a license outside of your student license when it comes to using Maya for a commercial product, like a game or movie, that will generate revenue!

As for your question about Mental Ray, you don't need to give credit however its always nice to state what you are using for renderers and I'm sure anyone that views your video would be happy to know what renderer you used!

Please let me know if this information is helpful or if you need any more assistance!

Kudos are greatly appreciated. Everyone likes a thumbs up!

Hello everyone,

I want to check some things about the Student version of Maya 2017. I am interested in entering the Filmstro 1 min Video contest but I was wondering if I am allowed to use assets/content I created in Maya and submit it to the contest, and if there was any problems with claiming prizes?

also, I had a video idea that would display the User interface of Maya 2017 plus Mental ray as the renderer, and I was wondering if that was a problem or if I needed to include credit to them.

Thank you

Still need to check the terms of the contest however. It's very typical for those running the contest to assume ownership rights over contest submissions, or at least have the right to use the submissions for future promotional work (i.e. generating revenue). They can't use EDU content any more than the original creator can. So it's vital to contact those running the contest to see what they have to say; they may prohibit works done with student licenses simply to avoid *any* kind of IP rights or licensing issues.
