Hi @Anonymous

Ah my mistake I should've clarified, when you go to delete the edge, you need to press CTRL and Backspace not Delete.

Let me know if this works for you or if you need any more assistance!

360 animation rotation pauses towards end

Hello @sean.heasley

Following the Skype video you posted, I was able to modify many aspects of my project, but yet some minor problems still occur.

1. I was able to make the cylinder & triangle rotate, but it slows down right at the end of the 360 timeframe. On the video you said you can change that, but for now, it’s ok. During our Skype call, the cylinder rotation was indeed flowing 360 degree, but not the triangle. We had said that I’d center it on later, on my own. I centered the triangle to be lined up with the rest, but now that I put the triangle to animate 360 degrees, it pauses at the end.

2. Having set the timeframe from 1 to 360, when I play the animation, 750 fps is the closest speed (still slightly too fast) that I’d want it to play. Whenever I change the fps, it plays too quick and automatically changes the timeframe number from 1 - 360 to 0.76 - 1148 (differs throughout the fps choices) As soon as I set the timeframe back to 1-360, it doesn’t play the whole 360 rotation and skips several fps’.

I followed your option of choosing “Play every frame max real-time” but it’s still too fast and the triangle pauses before starting over it’s 360.

Thank you for your assistance!

- HBerrada

Hi!

It's simple math.

If FPS = 24 fps (and Max Playback speed = 1 x ), and total number of

Frames = 360, then

it needs at least 360/24 seconds to play the animation which is 15 seconds.

It can't be faster with these settings.

1. Set your FPS based on your output format and not on rotation speed, make it fix and don't change it later again

2. Then correct or set your keys (it are only 2, one for start and one for end position) based on needed rotation speed.

Hey @Anonymous how's it going?

Thanks for explaining in detail what you need help with! I realized I forgot to cover the one step to stop the animation pause.

To do this all you need to do is go to Windows->Animation Editors->Graph Editors here you can select the two keys and then select the Linear Tangents tool.

I also went ahead and created another screencast so you could follow along with the steps I took!

Hi Sean,

1.

Following your video (thanks for taking time to create it), starting off with selecting the triangle to Freeze Transformations to render everything to 0, I get the error on the bottom of the screen stating “ // Error: line 0: Freeze Transform not applied … because :object1.rotateY has INCOMING CONNECTION.”

Incoming connection from where??

After being obligated to manually enter “0” in all the filled blanks, my triangle moved up 3 cm from it’s spot , forcing me to manually lower it back to level it’s base. Once I re-place the triangle where it’s supposed to be, TRANSLATE Y becomes -2.706 “????” I re-enter 0, makes it penetrate the core of the cylinder and not visible from the outside!

I still tried your method, even though not everything is “0” since I positioned the triangle in its dedicated spot, but this very incomprehensible stuff still happens…

2.

Second factor, trying to get a slightly slower speed I changed the timeframe of the selected cylinder ending at 360 to 180 (like you suggested) key framed 1 and a second key frame at 180, {an automatic red keyframe on the timeframe positions itself at 11, which I keep deleting} entered 360 in the Rotate Y spot, changed the fps from 750 to 24 (like suggested), duplicating your video to the dot, but the animation I view plays only several frames too quickly, then pauses throughout the rest of the frames, and back… meanwhile while viewing the timeframe animation, the untouched or “unspoken to” triangle keeps speeding up it’s slow speed set 360 rotation, throughout the incomprehensible animation I’ve “Frankensteined” !! I thought that if I selected the cylinder alone, everything modified would only affect it, and nothing else around it.

I’ve closed and NOT SAVED to reopen a fresh save numerous times trying different ways, but the result is far from being correct.

On a good note:

Thank you for the video that shows how to stop the pause towards the end of the 360 rotation through graph editor and linear tool. I’ve learned a new technique this morning!

All the best to you,

- HBerrada

As usual @sean.heasley comes through with great assistance!!

Magnificently explained and thoroughly touched all aspects of all problems I had posed with such a simple method to reach the solution.

I can say that the question/reason I had posted on my first thread based on my project is finally complete!

@sean.heasley has provided me with numerous solutions of many different problems that rose along the way!!

While we are at it, I would like to get some information about something you (@sean.heasley) did on your video.

I tried to duplicate based on your screenshot how to recreate a triangle from a square. (This was not the point of the video, but you were going so fast, probably clicking on keyboard shortcuts, I had to research the net on how to remove edges and create others to fill up the blank (attached image below) https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/Maya/files/GUID-689C75D9-88C8-4F55-91B9-02E5C60DF6AC-htm.html)I viewed that portion of your video many times, trying to catch the button you clicked on to fill up the space, but no success.

This was done, because I was thinking it would be easier to just delete the current triangle and create a new one since I couldn't freeze transformations, but as soon as I deleted the key selected from the timeframe, it got set to 0. (no more freeze transform errore, THANKS)

Image #1 : Basic triangle created on sceane

Image #2: After having right clicked and selected EDGE, I have removed three edges eyeballing a triangle by selecting the edge (line becomes red) and pressing the Backspace (delete) keyboard button.

However as you see, half of the triangle is missing, and an edge is not filled up. Base on your video, it seemed as if you just clicked a keyboard button and filled it up. I vastly researched how ... with no success.

Please reply how you simply created a triangle from a square in less than 3 seconds!!

You are a great mentor Sean,

Thank you and all the best for you

- HBerrada

Hi @Anonymous

Glad my screencast helped solve your issue for the most part!

As for the triangle, all I did was create a cube, select one vertical edge and then delete it.

It may be a bit hard to see but I made a gif of the steps you can watch here!

Create Cube.

Select one edge.

Result after deleting selected edge.

Hi @sean.heasley,

Somehow, following your instructions don’t add up to the triangle you have.

I have taken images below with the description of each,

Image 1: Cube created

Image 2 NA:Right click on cube and select EDGE. As your image, right vertical side selected in green (not visible in my SNIPPING TOOL to capture screen shot)

Image 3: Result after deleting selected edge of the cube

I selected all other sides as well, and each time the result is not a triangle.

What am I doing wrong?

Greetings,

- HBerrada

Hi @Anonymous

Ah my mistake I should've clarified, when you go to delete the edge, you need to press CTRL and Backspace not Delete.

Let me know if this works for you or if you need any more assistance!

Thank you Sean!!

CRTL + Backspace creates a perfect triangle.

Greetings to you!

- HBerrada
