Change Windows input language on Maya startup

Hello, I use ENG INTL to write in various languages but Maya doesn't accept that for a lot of hotkeys so I must use ENG US in Maya.

Does someone know how to, on Maya's startup, change the Windows language to ENG US?

Unfortunately there isn't a way for Maya to directly change the Windows language.

However I wanted to get a bit more information to make sure I understand what you're trying to do.

Does Maya not recognize the ENG INTL when you're writing the code for the hotkey or does it not recognize when you press a key to use the hotkey?

Hi, thanks for trying to help,

Hotkeys with combinations that use:
- ctrl + alt + something are not recognized.
- ctrl + alt + shift + something too.

It seems like ctrl + alt + shift + alpha keys (numbers) are an exception to this.

The reasons for this might simply be that INTL outputs with ctrl + alt + O for example, this character: ó (Ó with shift) and US inputs nothing with ctrl + alt o.
Just guessing about that here.

A hotkey that specifically doesn't work in US or INTL is:
Ctrl+W (only on Windows)

To answer your question: it doesn't recognize a key when I press it with ENG INTL

Ah ok, in this case it's like you said and that since the INTL output is something like ó (Ó with shift) for example Maya won't recognize it.

The only workaround I could think of is that when you have an additional language set up with Windows, you can usually find a toggle setting in the tray at the bottom right of your screen.

This is how mine looks for example:

From here you should be able to switch back to standard English and not see any issues in Maya.

That's indeed what I must do and it is rather annoying since I must frequently switch languages back and forth and it's really something I'd rather not have to focus on, Maya is the only program where I must do this as other programs seem to understand keybinds properly ,even 3DS Max doesn't have that issue.

Is there some solution that's automatic and not manual? And is this something that's planned to be fixed?

I went ahead and made a quick video of myself using the ENG INTL keyboard and not having any issues.

When you get a chance, can you let me know what version of Windows and Maya you are running?

Its possible an older version of one of those two or both may be causing the issue.

First of all, thanks for caring about my problem Sean! 🙂

I'm using Win10 and Maya 2018.1, so all the latest stuff,

In your video you're using the Ctrl + key which does indeed work.
Some hotkeys do not work however, for example Ctrl + Shift + Alt + S (I believe any combinations with Ctrl + shift + alt + anything won't work).
If you try and set up a hotkey with that combination, you'll see that Ctrl + Alt + Shift + S won't do anything in INTL however if you set it up with US it will work.

I made a little gif to show this: https://i.imgur.com/XeCFphb.gifv , it's not very clear in the gif but I am pressing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + S in both US and INTL and only when in US the hotkey is recognized by the program as a valid hotkey. ( I don't have a program that shows which hotkey I'm pressing ).

Thanks so much for posting the video of your issue! I never knew this was an issue with Maya and I just checked 2017 and 2016 and this issue occurs across all of them. Therefore I went ahead and logged this with our dev team to see if we can get a fix implemented!

Hey Sean, can you tell me the name of the program you use to show which controls you press on screen please?

I've found another problem where I cannot copy the keys from one animated control to another through the graph editor. It works only when using the channel box and pressing left click > copy / paste. I talked this over with my teacher and he says it's an Autodesk problem so I'm just relaying this.

Using the graph editor's copy/paste will only paste one attribute (for example Translate X, but not the others like Translate Y, ...).

The program I used to capture video is Screencast, it has a built in feature that allows me to display all keys pressed while recording!

As for your issue with copy/pasting keys. I just did a quick test and created a cube and keyed all the attributes then tried to copy paste them in the graph editor and had no issues.

Are you working in Maya 2018 Update1? If so, when you get a chance can you please let me know if there are any more in depth steps to reproduce the issue or if I missed something?

I am on the latest version, yes Maya 2018.1,

I made a little video to show what I meant, there's no audio but what I'm doing is first trying to copy paste with ctrl C + ctrl V. This doesn't work (it only pastes the visibillity curve) so I end up using the channel box with ctrl c + ctrl v and then it works.
It's not super clear if you don't get it I'll make another video.

Thanks for sharing the video! Now I understand what you're going for and I have a solution!

Instead of selecting all the keys in the graph editor, select all of the keys at the end of the graph and then copy paste them. This should take all the attributes and paste them over properly.

If this doesn't work for you, I'd be happy to make a video showing how I did it on my machine!

Yes, I had the same thing where I thought it worked but I believe we both made the same mistake where we were actually pasting from the channel box into the graph editor. At least that's my best guess.

It's interesting that copying from the channel box to the graph editor works but maybe you should report this too.
I think previous Maya versions will have the problem too has my teacher said this: "This has been a long-standing issue."

EDIT: Ctrl+V actually works even without the graph editor, it works simply in the scene view too.
Which makes me wish that Ctrl+C in the scene view could copy the whole animation too, as it seems like it should.
