Hi!

Recently i started to make some displacement on objects but unfortunetly there is a problem that i can't find any solution on internet.

The edges of hard surface cube are getting "distorted" in some wierd way. Any help?

Thanks!

Im attaching photo 😉

This looks like its because of your UV mapping. Have you UV mapped this object?

thanks for reply!

i just clicked automatic uv mapping, but is there a better way?

i thought maya just trying to fill those "holes" when 2 sides are displaced. In objects there is created some kind of black space.

Hi @Anonymous

Yes there is a much better way! Automatic mapping is Maya kinda giving its best guess at what you want but there's almost always a lot of cleanup that needs to be done.

In your case with a cube mesh it should be as simple as selecting a few edges and hitting Move and Sew Edges.

Here's a basic video on UV mapping that may help you!

Let me know if you need any more assistance!

i have move and saw every face of cube in uv but it is still making edges "circular" how can i fix that? And if i higher the displacement its still bluring those edges 😞

Hi!

That's what displacement does, it displaces vertices and stretches the texture.

Don't add displacement at the borders. Make sure the displacement texture there has a color value that produces a displacement of "0" (might be grey or black).

Hi @Anonymous

It looks like a normal map may help you more than displacement map. Here's a simple video showing a basic difference between the two.
