Hi!

Just enter any value you want, but care, polygon count increases drastically with every level (because of that the slider is limited to "4" at beginning).

Hello,

My problem is the Maya Vector render is rendering major jagged shading on a two-color torus polygon object. I thought it was my light and a lack of the shadow settings, but shadows are turned off in the Maya Vector tab because they're not supported in vector formats.

I assumed it was the geometry, so I added a poly smooth to it to increase the divisions up to 4, and despite the object glowing in the editor because there's so much unnecessary geometry added, it still doesn't render smooth edges.

How can I smooth the shading?

Thank you.

Hi!

Hmm. I wanted to check your smoothing setting, cause this works fine here.

PolySmooth with Division Levels "4" makes it much smoother.

Do you really need Vector Render? Maybe the Ramp Shader would deliver better results.

Thank you for replying.

My use of the Vector renderer is to utilize that shape inside of Illustrator for further vector editing. If another render has output that can be interpreted as vector once in Illustrator, I'm happy to go with that.

I had poly smooth set to 4 as well but it still shows jagged stepping. Nowhere near as much without adding all that geometry with smoothing, of course, so it's certainly better. Is there a way to "double down" on poly smooth to increase the subdivision even further? The end result in vector from Maya doesn't include the internal geometry edges, so the massive polygon count shouldn't make a difference given this isn't for gaming or other common use where poly count is a concern.

If there's a way to export something comparable in Maya Software, that would be the preferred route given the Toon ramp shading but from what I know, that is raster-based and I've already gone down the road of translating PNGs to vector via AI's Image Trace or Vector Magic with unpredictable results overall.

If I could export an object with Toon shading to something such as AutoCAD or the likes, I would attempt to add that to the workflow for the sake of getting clean vector-based geometry.

Thanks.

Hi!

The vector render with Fill style "Two color" relies on geometry detail, so a higher polygon count is the only way to increase detail there. You may use an other style or render out raster images , but i can't recommend an application for auto-conversion.

Thank you for the two-color clarification.

Is there a method to increase the geometry beyond the 4 setting on Poly Smooth?
