I was given a T posed model. I rigged the skeleton, put it in position, froze the transformations, stuck a base underneath it, and now I want to export it as a .dae file. The model already has a texture on it, but the base is a white material I applied.

It doesn't export with the texture. What's the deal? I am super new to Maya but it seems like there are never any straight answers to any problems I run into on this thing I'm losing my mind a little bit!

I'm on Windows 10, latest version of Maya.

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!

What are you trying to export to?

Certain programs wont automatically apply a material to them on export.

Hi @sheldonkruger

Usually that kind of error happens when you have groups on any of your mesh or bones. Check your outliner and make sure you dont have any group. By default, maya will group objects after they have been separated to preserve transformations. Also, groups can appear on some joints after certain operations. In short, collada does not support groups so get rid of them.

It's also not a super important error anyway - it's a warning that there's information lost in the transition. So essentially: your model is the same, it's just the data that's behind it that's lost. However if you're noticing important information missing etc. let me know and we can try and work further with this.
