Hi!

If it works with Legacy Viewport it may be something related to Consolidate World or a similar feature of Viewport 2.0.

An example scene would be very helpful.

Every time I unload or load a referenced object it's refreshing ALL of my references. What? Why? This is painful.

When you get a chance, can you please zip and attach the scene file here or via dropbox/google drive or another file sharing program so we can take a look at it?

This would be an insanely large file to upload with dozens of referenced files.

Another strange note here is this only seems to happen when working outside of wireframe mode. In wireframe mode I don't see any of this refresh issue. The references themselves don't actually unload/ reload, it's like the display just goes out and it refreshes everything. I've attached a video to show you what I am seeing.

The wireframes will stick around (even if just wireframe on shaded) but it attempts to re-draw all the geometry for all instances if I unload or load any other referenced object. all objects (except for the terrain) are instances of referenced objects.

Hi!

It could also be a problem with RAM.

Please try Clamp Texture Resolution for Viewport 2.0 and start with a very low value like "64".

This seemed to speed up the process, but its still re-drawing all of the instances. I'm generally not too short on RAM, and this seems to occur no matter how many or how few references/ instances i have loaded.

Can anyone else reproduce this?

Hi!

This is not the default behavior, so something in your scene (incl. References) or in Preferences triggers this.

Without the files we can't check this.

1. Try a reset of your preferences.
Rename the folder prefs in folder 2018 to something like prefs_backup, or to reset everything, the folder 2018 to 2018_backup (or even the maya folder to maya_backup). Maya creates new folders (don't copy preferences from previous Maya versions). Detailed at:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Reset-Maya-to-Default.html

2. Check your materials and scripts.

Without some files that show this behavior i can't help you further.

Note that this only happens with Viewport 2.0. I enabled legacy viewport and it's not an issue. Also have co-workers able to reproduce the issue. If I am able to find time today I will upload an example project.
