Alembic not loading on Scene Import

Hiya. I'm using Maya 2017 (Update 5) on a Linux platform. I have a a bullet alembic cache that plays and imports fine when importing it through the Cache-Alembic menu.

However, my workflow in this case would be much easier if I could import a scene file which contains the same alembic export (along with other elements). When I import this scene, the alembic node shows up in my Outliner, but will not load or play. I look in the Attribute Editor, and everything is pointing to the right place. If I just open this same scene, the cache plays fine. It seems like something is going wrong when I importing?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Ah, sorry - I posted too soon. Turns out the file I was importing that contained everything was made by "Export Selected". If instead the file is made by "Export All" it seems to work flawlessly.

Also, I was wrong in stating those file opened correctly. They were busted from the get go.
