Yeah. That is what I read up on today as well.
Quadro is more stable. So that is great.

If you get the kind of unstable I just had for three days, it's enough just take along walk!
Whew. Glad that is over.

Thanks for checking in on this. 😉

What could my crashes be. Maya Problem? OS problem? Vray Problem? Hardware Problem?
All the above? ha.

Most of my crashes happen during rendering. And, I am Rendering via Vray, and running 32 gb Ram, on a hyperthreaded i7 5930k running at 4400HHz.

When it crashes, a box comes up and says they are sedning the problem to Microsoft, and that microsoft will contact me if they find a solution. Hmm. I doubt that.

Anyway, have re-intalled Windows 10 pro 4 times. Last two are clean installs. Still problem persists. So my OS has no bloatware, and has only a few programs on it. Maya, Vray Plugin, Mari, Zbrush and some Adobe CC programs. Running all current drivers for Asus X-99 Deluxe II motherboard, and running a GTX 1080. 3 Monitors and a Wacom XD on Windows 10.

What to do now? Many Blue screens Errors...such as:

Quote_underflow
System_service_Exception
Memory_management
IRQL-Not_less_or_equal

Probably Hardware issue? Maybe RAM? Ram has been working great for a couple of years.

Hi!

Bluescreen errors are usually caused by hardware or driver problems, please also check for overheating.

I also think that's a hardware issue. If you have overclocked the CPU or Memories, try running them at stock speed and see if the problem still exists.

Yes, I have my processor overclocked. Which causes my ram to go at slower speeds than XMP. Will give that a shot.
I took out two ram sticks, and do get some stuttering, and slight freezes, but so far no crashes. Thanks for your responses.

Just wanted to add that the stutter is probably as a result of CPUs' full workload. If you still intend to do some light work during rendering, make sure you have "Low Thread Priority" enabled in V-ray. That will let you surf the web and do some other stuff while still using the remaining processing power for rendering.

It was a RAM module that went bad. I would think that having one bad RAM stick would make the system so unstable it would be useless, but not in my case. Found the culprit. Good thing these things have a lifetime Warranty. When will RAM prices come down? Hard to even look at the prices of Video Cards, and RAM. 2 years ago i bout 32 gbs of Dominator Ram 3000Mhx for about 200. bucks! Twice as much. And well...as for Video cards - seams like I am still seeing almost 400.00 markup.

I see very little difference in time between rendering with i7 5930k and GTX 1080.

I was thinking about going with a Quadro Card next time. Looks like the miners are buying those up as much.
Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Interesting you say that. I was about to suggest checking your RAMs, because the exact same thing happened to my PC a couple of years ago. I would get BSoD during rendering in V-ray (Max). I am glad you found the issue. In terms of the Quadros, in my opinion, they offer very little gain compared to GTX cards considering their prices. It also depends on what you do, but for viewport performance, they are not worth it for me.

We have 6 GB Quadros and 16 Core Xeons at school, and I only get 1 to 2 fps speed gain in Maya's viewport for animation playback. I have a 3rd Gen i7 (4 core @ 3.2 GHz) and an 870m card in my laptop at home and get pretty much the same performance here. It is very frustrating considering the price differences and the very little advantage you get, at least in my case.

Ahh! Sounds like you have had some rough experiences with Maya.

I am just learning the program, so pretty new to things. However, I was really enjoying Blender. Many intuitive shortcut keys, and I was able to work much faster, but am not able to judge yet learning new software.

Yeah, it would be nice to know more about Cuda and wondering if Maya benefits much from SLI, as Blender does. Something I will look into.

Thanks for responding. 😉
