Hi there,

is there something I can check in Maya to prevent crashes?

It is crashing every day multiple times with the error message "Fatal Error. Attempting to save in C:/..../Temp/...."

Maya crashes during render with Arnold/Redshift, UV-Editor, selecting faces... - (Not always.. it is random).

There are tons of videos online where people change the environment variables. Should I try it or keep my hands of?

I'm using the Maya 2018.2 Student version on a PC.

I7 7700k

32GB RAM

GTX 1060 with newest driver

Hi @Anonymous

It's a bit hard to tell since it looks like you're getting multiple crashes. Generally with most crashes Maya will create an error log that is in your temp folder however certain crashes do not create a log.

Also, you may get a prompt to fill out an error report that should end with giving you a CER number, if that has happened please let me know as I can look up the crash in our system and try and identify what may be causing it.

Finally, our officially supported driver version for your 1060 is version 388.43. If you aren't on this version, please uninstall you're current GPU drivers and then install driver 388.43 which can be found here!

Please let me know if this helps or if you need any more assistance!

If one or more of these posts helped answer your question, please click Accept as Solution on the posts that helped you so others in the community can find them easily.

Kudos are greatly appreciated. Everyone likes a thumbs up!

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting the CER number.

I just checked and this is actually a major issue that affects multiple parts of Maya. That said, our dev team has a fix planned to be implemented in a future update for Maya 2018!

A possible workaround for this specific part with the UVs, could be to only select the UVs in the UV editor and not in the perspective window.

Please let me know if this helps!

Hi, this is the exact problem I have been having. Maya 2018.4 has crashed multiple times since updating to 2018.4 It's driving me to distraction. I have tried so many things to fix this to no avail.

When rotating a controller , scrubbing the timeline, moving a polygon around Maya, or sometimes even just moving the camera Maya will either a) just hang and disappear, b) hang and have to be shut down from the task manager, or c) send up a coding error undo of command, set attr caused by re-entrant call to undo manager manager, and have a long string of code a stack error displayed in the outliner.

I started keeping a track of when these crashes occurred, what I was doing, and any information that I had on hand and have included it in the text file I will upload with the crash reports.

I deleted everything except my rig from my scene, which is referenced in. (It's the Kyle Rig from Josh Sobel if that matters)

I have optimised my scene, deleting unused nodes etc, I have tried importing into a fresh scene, I have tried not referencing and having it all in one scene.

I have set my file preference to OS native, gone with the DirectX11 rendering engine, switched from Parallel Evaluation mode to DG, and still, it crashes, usually, around every 20, 30 minutes if I save often and have luck on my side.

Last night I did a clean uninstall/reinstall and the first thing it did after updating was crash, I hadn't even started to animate anything.

Next, I'm going to figure out how to roll back to 2018.2 without taking HOURS to uninstall again and hope that I can get the rest of animation done BEFORE the end of my degree (which is supposed to be finished by the 23rd!)

If someone, anyone could reply to this and offer me some hope I would be ever so grateful. I can attach my scene file too if that helps, just let me know.

Below is the last crash report that was sent, I lost track of how many I have sent over the last few days. It was in the 10's.

CER_181684859

I can add a few things for you to check. First check your GPU driver and make sure its the same as our certified hardware list.

You can find our certified hardware list here!

You can also try changing your evaluation mode to Serial or Parallel in your animation tab in the settings window.

If none of that helps then I recommend rolling back to update 2 like you mentioned and then let me know if anything changes!

Hmm, my husband is an IT guy, so he insists I stay on top of driver updates, My Geforce 950 is running 416.34 do you think that this is will be the route of my issue? I will try the serial mode, in the meantime, I'm heading into uni today to see if it makes a difference as I do not believe they are running the updated version of Maya. I will keep you updated.

IT was my background before I got into 3D art and yes usually having the most updated drivers is important but when troubleshooting issues like this with a program as complex as Maya it's important to test other driver versions.

The nice thing is that if this driver change doesn't help, you can easily update and be right back to the most recent driver.

For your 950, it's not on our certified hardware list however the driver version we recommend is version 398.82. When you get a chance please uninstall your current GPU driver and install version 398.82 which can be found here!

That happened after i put lights in my scene, but i’m just using Maya Software to render. I only put a directional light. Our proffessor asked to have the resolution up to 2048 and filter 2 or 3. I installed Maya on a different computer and i have the same problem...

I
went back a few scenes and managed to render after i set up my lights and
camera again, but when i changed the rendering preferences ( basically just
added a name and chose to save as targa, i already had it set up to render
in the highest quality ) i started having the same problem again. I will
check my GPU and also send the file tomorrow if the problem persists!

Hello Sean,

I have checked my GPU, it's NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M. I have tried a few things and managed to pinpoint the problem. It crashes when I change my rendering settings to Targa image format. That is the format our professor asked for. It crashes every-time from the first frame. Is there anything I can do to fix it? I'm sending a zip of my scene without the settings changed or the animation, but even if it's a single frame it still crashes when changed to Targa.

Hi @emilySKA2V

Thanks for attaching the files!

What are you using for a renderer? I did a quick render sequence with Maya hardware and had no issues rendering out in TGA format.

Also if not using TGA format is working for you you could always open the files in photoshop and convert them to TGAs for your professor if you're on a deadline.

Hello,
I’m rendering with Maya Software. I have tried Maya Hardware, I’ve tried
lower quality, other formats but nothing works. It keeps crashing. If you
could render it that means it might be not working just on my computers?
It’s hard to use the University’s computers for rendering as there are
classes all the time.
The render diagnostics comes up with loads of problems.. could that be the
reason is not working? It says something about assigning objects to shading
group, but i just started using the software. I have no idea how to fix all
that.

Hi @Anonymous

Yes it's most likely something on your end.

A quick test you can try is deleting your settings/preferences.

What warnings are you seeing in the render diagnostics and do any appear when you render without using TGA format?
