Thank you for the reply, I've set the settings to DG and it seems all is good. 15 minutes of messing around with the rig and no freezes. Nothing long term to really test it out however so far its seemingly everything's been fixed. thank you for the help.

currently attempting to rig a model in maya when the whole system hard freezes. Forced to use task manager to shut down. Attempted to follow the advice of this thread here: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-animation-and-rigging/opencl-error-unknown-error-waiting-for-idle-on-geforce-gtx-1080/td-p/7445619 however it did not succeed for me. The only thing I have yet to do is add MAYA_OPENCL_IGNORE_DRIVER_VERSION=1 to maya.env, however I'm having issues locating said file.

system specs are as follows: AMD Ryzen 7 1700x (3.4hz), GeForce GTX 1080ti, 32 gigs of ram.

HI @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! If you have installed Maya in the default location, you would be able to find the environment file (.env) in Documents > Maya > 2018. Once you find it, Open the Maya.env file in Notepad (it will be empty), then paste your variable and save it. Make sure Maya is shut down prior to implementing the variable.

Here's another article we have about Environment Variables: Setting environment variables using Maya.env

Let me know if you are still unable to find that file 🙂 I'd be happy to continue assisting you!

implemented the code line into maya.env but did not have any success. I discussed with the professor the issue, as it only occurs when moving a rig around. I unfortunately forgot the whole sordid discussion when I got home but he mentioned something along the lines of changing something to DDS(?) in preferences. Unfortunately the steps escape me and hopefully you might be able to fill in the gaps.

Hi @Anonymous

I think what he was referring to was the Evaluation Mode? Switching to DG mode in preferences is a little bit more stable than Parallel mode. Here's how to get to that setting:

Window > Settings/Preferences > Preferences > Animation > Evaluation Mode > select DG from the drop down menu 🙂

Let me know if that works for you! 🙂 Happy to continue assisting you!
