Hi!

This may be the wrong forum for you, because Maya LT Files (.mlt) cannot be opened with Maya.

Also include more data / Screenshots like Bake settings, UV's, or upload the objects an other file format.

Hello everyone,

First of all, I would like to apologize in setting up this post again.

I made a mistake as I declared it as a solution.

So ...

I attach the Maya LT file for better understanding.

I modeled an extruded character from a font in high and low poly versions.

I would like to generate the normal map generated through the baking process.

First try, I placed the low poly exactly matching with the high poly.

In this case, the low poly doesn't totally include the high poly

I was not satisfied with the normal map I got.

Second try, I placed the low poly so that it totally includes the high poly (see attached file).

I'm not satisfied with the normal map.

The point here is to get a normal map that adds reslution to the round parts.

I already made a few bakings in Maya. I never use a cage. Should I use one there ?

Thank you for your help.

Hi!

Forget Baking, you will not gain any benefit with these meshes and it's not needed here.

Instead, just select your low poly mesh and smooth Normals:

1. Mesh Display -> Unlock Normals

2. Mesh Display -> Soften/Harden Edges

Hi!

You could use an other Vertex Normal Method, but if you want it to be smoother you need a more evenly spaced mesh.

Hi!

Nothing special, as posted above:

1. Mesh Display -> Unlock Normals

2. Mesh Display -> Soften/Harden Edges

(3. Assigning a new material)

How does it look if you render it?

Hi!

It is as smooth as for me in Maya.

If you are talking about the silhouette, then the only way is to add more geometry detail, a bump or normal map can't correct this.
