THere are multiple way to do this.

The easiest way is to use the separate/combine commands on parts of the mesh that you want to have unique UV spaces for. Then just group all the pieces at the end (not combine). Then you can apply a different material to each section and Substance will read these as separate texture sets.

Another way is to leave everything connected and UV them as if they were separate objects. Rinse and repeat material assignment. This only works in the end if you assign your shader per geometry. Otherwise the UV’s can’t be overlapping.

https://support.allegorithmic.com/documentation/display/SPDOC/Texture+Set

Cheers,
Mike

Good Evening!

I am trying to layout my UVs for my scene and I am running into an issue with the 0 to 1 space. There is just too many objects in my scene to nicely fit them all into one space so I can export to Substance.

My question is, is there a way to put UV's into layers? Or something of that nature where, for example, furniture, plants, and decor objects are all separate?

I wasn't sure if this as even possible, maybe it would just be better to break up my scene export then bring back to Maya and populate a scene once painted?

Thank you again!

Hi!

I maybe don't understand this correct, cause every object has it's own UVs, so every object can use 0 to 1.

They are all separate by default.

If you have multiple pieces but export a group as an FBX, Substance will read them as one object with UV’s overlapping. Material assignment is the only way to get individual UV sets, even if the pieces are separated and have their own UV space.

Cheer,
Mike

Hi!

Sure, every object needs his own material.

It's just a quirk with the way Substance works. It doesn't care about 'objects', it only cares about 'materials', so there are multiple possibilities with how to UV.

@Anonymous:

I recommend reviewing the following videos for a greater understanding of how this might work:

- Substance Texture Sets

- Model Prep 01: UV

- Model Prep 02: Materials

Cheers,

Mike
