Thanks for providing that scene! I just opened it in Windows 10 and tested it with my standard 3-button mouse and the Undo removed the keys/camera edits that I made. Do you have a different mouse that you could test on there? I want to make sure that it's not something in Maya itself that's malfunctioning 🙂 If it is limited to the mouse, this may be an issue best handled by 3D Connexion since we do not have access to their development resources.

Also, have you checked out your Undo settings? If you navigate to Windows > Settings/Preferences > Preferences in Maya, on the left hand side there's the "Undo" section near the bottom of the list. This is what mine looks like:

Thanks again for your time!

I've only been using Maya for a week so I'm still learning but there is a huge issue I am having that is driving me crazy.

I am using a 3D mouse and when I have a viewport of a custom camera that is keyframed and I accidentally move the 3D mouse when that viewport is active, the camera moves and ALT+Z does not undo the move. This ruins the entire camera path and the only way I can recover is to load the last autosave. If I move the camera using the normal mouse, I can ALT+Z the camera back to the correct position.

I would assume anyone that uses a 3D mouse would also run into this issue? Or maybe I need to configure something?

I get this when I try to ALT+Z

// Warning: Cycle on 'camera1_aim.translateX' may not evaluate as expected. (Use 'cycleCheck -e off' to disable this warning.)

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! 🙂 Can you tell me what mouse you are using? I'd be happy to look it up internally to see if this is a known issue.

As an alternative, you could lock your camera so that it cannot be moved. Here's how you would do that:

Select your camera

On the right side, in the channel box, right-click and drag down the attributes (starting at Translate X, all the way down to Visibility). These attributes should highlight in blue.

With the attributes still highlighted, right-click and select "Lock Selected"

Locking the camera will make it un-editable and protect your camera keys. Whenever you are ready to unlock it, follow the same steps as above, but select "Unlock Selected" instead 🙂

You can also lock attributes individually! For example, if you just wanted to lock Translate X, you can right-click on just that attribute and select "Lock Selected".

Let me know if that works! 🙂 Still happy to look into that mouse behavior too.

thanks for keeping us posted 🙂 I found one legacy issue for this mouse that was resolved by updating the drivers: 3D Connexion Drivers but after doing some research I am less certain that it is an issue with the mouse.

Hi @Anonymous

We have a SpaceNavigator model here, which we just tested on 2018.3 as well but we weren't having the same problem. This may be an issue specifically tied to the Spacepilot. Have you had a chance to log this with 3dConnexion? There may be a chance that they are already working on it 🙂

If you have time, could you create a Screencast of your workflow so that we can confirm that we are replicating it exactly as it should? Just to double check!

Thanks again! Looking forward to your reply.

Hi!

Some input devices like from 3dconnexion use special drivers to manipulate the scene/camera directly.

So i am pretty sure that only 3dconnexion can correct this.

I recommend to contact them for this problem.

Meanwhile i suggest to use a different camera for viewing the scene , than for rendering.

(It is recommended anyway.)

Hi @Anonymous , iv'e recently purchased the 3Dconnexion mouse and have experienced a similar issue. Certain camera were being able to move when using the mouse, even though they were locked.

I do not know if it is still an issue, i see now that the post is a year old. But still...

After looking into it, i've found that when a simple camera is locked, this is not happening. Although, if you change the hierarchy of the camera and parent it to something, the lock has no effect and the camera moves (as if we are moving the parent of the camera)

You can see an example of the issue in the GIF below, try to see if the camera is attached to something in your scene, I found that parenting causes the issue but there may be other factors that are effecting this as well.

Hope it helps!

@jordan.giboney - it is still happening today in Maya 2019.2, a year after 😃 Is it possible to check this issue?

Thank you
