Good morning,

I've been trying to export a CATIA project file (.CATProduct) to Unity. To do so, I was trying to use Maya in order to create a .fbx file and then import it to Unity as an asset. However, I don't know why I can't see anything in the Scene when I put it into the Hierarchy Panel.

First, I import the CATIA File to Maya. It seems working perfectly since I can see in Maya the CAD with its PartBody and Mutisections. However, whenever I try to export it (via the "Game Exporter" or the "Export All/Selections"), I found a warning/error message, which is: "This scene contains at least one transform node with multiple shape nodes. The plug-in will export only one of the shape nodes", which is, actually, only the PartBody.

Any idea how to solve this issue? it happens to me with every CATIA file...

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Anonymous your title 'Maya export issues into unity' was edited for clarity by @sean.heasley

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!

I haven't worked with .CAT products before especially going to unity but it sounds like there's some issue with the base file.

A quick test is you can check to make sure everything is one object by combining them all then deleting history on everything.

If that doesn't work, when you get a chance can you please zip and attach the scene file here or via dropbox/google drive or another file sharing program so I can take a look at it?

Hi @sean.heasley,

Sorry for not answering sooner. I've tried to combine the polygonal mesh (which I generated by changing NUMBS to Polygonal in the Modify option), and also delete the History. However, while I am able to export the file, the model is wrongly exported (some components are missing from the original).

Therefore I attached you a google drive link where I upload the .CAD file: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1qJbOMbRWftdPsudsMrHmrIOL1GCT0f9g.

Thanks a lot for your help! Should you have any questions just ask me, I'll try to keep an eye on my email inbox.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! @sean.heasley is out of the office today, so I was going to jump in and try to help 🙂 I clicked on your google drive link and downloaded the file. Upon import, there was a node in the Outliner titled Test_Wing, but no actual mesh that I could find. Is this accurate? Exporting to FBX did not give any errors for me.

Apologies if I have misunderstood the process at this point 🙂 Happy to keep troubleshooting until we get it figured out!

Hello @jordan.giboney, @sean.heasley

Oh I see. I've tried to export the .CAT file to .fbx, but it gave some errors during the process. Following some of the advices found on internet, the process that seemed to work for other people (not for me, obviously...) was this one.

1. import the file from File>Import...

2. select all the Multi-Section and PartBody elements, and use the Modify > Convert > NURBS to Polygon. I do this because I found that the error of the NURBS was due to the fact that Unity can't stand this kind of elements.

3. Then, select the "nurbstoPoly" elements and create the Mesh with Mesh > Combine. A new nurbstoPoly is created, which is actually the mesh (nurbstoPoly161 is in this case).

4. After that, erase the History of the elements by going to Edit > Delete by Type > Hystory. All the other nurbstoPoly are erased.

5. Finally, export the file directly by using File >Game Explorer. I uncheck the Triangulate in the Geometry section.

By doing this, I manage somehow to create the .fbx file. However, the real problem comes when I try to import this file to Unity. I found that there are pieces that are missing and seems that the texture is not imported, as well as the material. In fact, when I try to export the file using "Export all"-"Export Selection" it arises a warning saying that the material can't be exported. Any solution for this?

Thanks!
