Hi,

I'm currently evaluating Maya to replace Cinema4D in our studio - so i've downloaded the trial version and I'm working through some tutorials to determine if it's appropriate. The error I'm experiencing is:

1. Open Maya

2. View>Image Plane> Import Image...

3. Layer editor / Width [CRASH]

This was happening on a Macbook Pro that I started testing Maya with. Consistently crashing, my thinking was that it may have been a GPU issue with the Macbook Pro. I switched over to an iMac to test, however the exact same problem is occurring. Given that our studio is Mac based, I need to quickly determine if Maya is even going to be able to run on our hardware.

Thanks in advance.

Jonathan

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! When Maya crashes, do you get the opportunity to submit a CER report? These crash reports filter through our defect database and attach preexisting defects that match the crash data. If you've submitted one (or multiples), can you PM me the report number or email address it was submitted under? I would be happy to look up the results of the report for you 🙂

Also, can you tell me a bit more about your setup?

What version of Maya are you running? Have you installed the latest updates?

Updates are separate installations that need to be applied independently of the base install. 2018.3 is the latest update for 2018, and Update 5 is the latest for 2017

Where to find updates for Maya

Have you tried Resetting your Preferences? It is a common misconception that this is reset to default on installation, but this is not the case.

Do your macs meet the System Requirements for Maya 2018?

Thanks for your time! I look forward to getting this issue resolved 🙂

Hi Jordan,

I've recreated the error and submitted another error log (the one I sent yesterday appears to have dropped off the email). The Error report is : CER_177053105. I've also created a screencast of the issue : https://knowledge.autodesk.com/community/screencast/62e076e1-8760-4e96-8aee-e113f969fb64

Thanks in advance for your help.

Kind regards,

Jonathan

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for your reply! I looked up your report, and it did attach a pre-existing defect. This crash is happening in the Channel Box specifically and (according to research thus far) is tied to accessibility privileges assigned to third party apps or plug-ins. An example app that they gave in the defect report was "Cinch"... any chance you have this installed on your machines?

Here's the workaround our Development Team posted:

Simply remove the Qt Accessible plugin from the Maya installation. That is in: qt-plugins/accessible (rename or remove the folder completely).
Restart Maya.

Also you may disable Accessibility on the computer:
In Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility > disable all apps other than Maya.

Due to legal restrictions, I am unable to give out specific info on the fix release, but I would recommend bookmarking our Release Notes Page and review it the next time we publish an update - we update this site with a full list of resolved defects with every update and/or full version release of Maya. Rest assured our team is hard at work at resolving this issue.

I've posted this forum link in the defect log as well to ensure that they get more evidence of this crash 🙂 But if there is anything else you would like me to add to the log I would be more than happy to. Thanks for taking the time to report this!
