Scaling/Clip Plane Issue

I have run into a serious problem with Maya 2018; out of nowhere, every new scene I make has a very unusual scaling issue. Refer to the screenshots. In most other files I've created, the scaling is correct, and so is the clip plane, but on any new scene, not only is anything I create roughly 1/8 the size it's supposed to be, but when I zoom out, everything gets cut off by the clip plane after just moving a few feet back.

Is there a setting in the preferences that can correct this?

Hi!

Try a reset of your preferences.
Rename the folder prefs in folder 2018 to something like prefs_backup, or to reset everything, the folder 2018 to 2018_backup (or even the maya folder to maya_backup). Maya creates new folders (don't copy preferences from previous Maya versions). Detailed at:

For further help:

1. What Working Units are you using for New Scene?

2. Do you make use of "Enable default scene"?

3. Upload a scene-file with object that shows the problem.

I already tried restoring the default settings on the preferences; it had no effect.

1) I have the linear units set at centimeters and the angular at degrees. Those are the same on both new and old scenes.

2) Where would I find the "Enable Default Scene" tool?

3) Refer to the attached screenshots.

Hi!

Restoring default settings inside Maya and deleting the preferences folders are different things.

I highly recommend to reset everything, by renaming in your user directory the folder 2018 to 2018_backup and if this does not help the maya folder to maya_backup.

I've searched every file in the Applications folder for the preferences and found nothing.

Can you tell me where in the preferences I can enable the scene settings to default?

The user settings are not in the application folder, they are in your user directory:

C:\Users\USERNAME\My Documents\maya\2018

Just rename the maya folder to maya_backup

There is no folder for Maya under the Preferences on my computer.

Do you know what file format the prefs is kept under?

Also, please tell me where I can "Enable a Default Scene".

I don't have a "My Documents" folder under my username.

Are the preferences in the form of a folder or a specific file format?

I also realized I misinterpreted the third instruction you wrote.

The lava dragon file has the correct settings, while the other file does not. You will definitely need the outliner open for that one.

Hi!

Without a personal documents folder you may have a bigger problem than the one in Maya.

Please check the registry for the personal documents folder location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Hi!

OK, then it's a different folder

(To get the preferences folder, save preferences in Maya and check Output in Script Editor.)

But based on your scene-file i was able to find the problem.

Change settings for the Grid in Viewport to fix it.

//Your settings
grid -spacing 100 -size 1000 -divisions 1;
//Default settings
grid -spacing 5 -size 12 -divisions 5;

I have NO idea how that happened. I must have pressed a key that somehow changed the settings. I'll have to check the hotkey editor and see if I can disable that specific function.
