Maya 2018.4 fatal crash (Unhandled Exception)

Hello,

I get an unhandled Exception, when using Maya 2018.4 Student Version.

I can easily reproduce it:

- creating a Polgon Cube

- in the Settings changing the Parameters like Height, Width or Depth

- then when trying to click on edit undo or using shortcut Ctrl+Z

the programm crashes.

But the error occures as well sometimes when selecting faces/vertices/edges.

Sometimes the program just closes without any Error Alert.

I added the Crashlog and the User Info as Attachments.

I'm using a Nvidia 1060 in my Laptop and tried several drivers.

At last I tried the recommended driver version 398.82.

The Computer itself is the MSI GE63 Raider RGB 8RE.

I hope anyone has an Idea how to fix this problem.

Thanks for providing all that information!

I can't reproduce your issue so its most likely an issue with your hardware/Maya.

Was there a CER report pop up when Maya crashed? If so can you please fill it out and let me know what the CER number is so I can look it up in our log?

Also, the crash log is pointing to a lot of dll files so you may want to perform a clean uninstall/reinstall of Maya and then try deleting your settings/preferences.

Please let me know if anything changes!

I tried to downgrade to an older Version.

The porblem mentioned doesn't appear in Version 2018.0 and 2018.2. I couldn't try Version 2018.3.

After upgrading to 2018.4 the problem occured again.

Thanks for attaching the CER report numbers!

I pulled them up and they aren't linked to any known issues however the part of Maya thats being affected is linked to a very similar bug that was occurring in 2018.3 and was fixed in 2018.4 so it's unusual that this is happening for you.

When you say you downgraded, did you just uninstall the update or did you clean uninstall/reinstall all of Maya?

Let me know, I'd be more then happy to provide you information which may help to

solve the problem.

Yeah I uninstalled Maya completly (and in the Temp Data the Maya Folder) and Installed the version 2018 and afterwards I used the UpdateTool to update to Version 2018.2, where the problem didn't occure aswell.

Then i tried 2018.4 again and it occured again.

I'm fine with using 2018.2 to avoid the problem for the moment.

I've installed Maya 2018.4 on 3 comps, "clean install" on the clean system, and all has a problem with unexpected crashing.... Absolutely unstable((

So I installed 2018.3 and all became good.

Thanks for your respond.

I did the same, I am working with 2018.2 right now and everything seems to work smooth.

I cannot install 2018.3 from the current 2018.2...

The Desktop-App only shows me the update to 2018.4.

But even with this (2018.2) version Maya is on my computer more stable then 2018.4.

First, sorry I'm new in the forum.. maybe not the best way use reply to joint the discussion.

Yesterday I updated Maya (Subscription) from 2018.3 to 2018.4.

I've found the same issue after pressing Ctrl Z for Undo. Maya's been crashed. The only way I can get this error if I use the channel box numeric input with dragging the mouse to change the input value. If I change the value by clicking into the field, re-typing the value and undo then everything works fine.

Hi, I'm working for a public school and we also have this problem with Maya 2018 update 4 crashing. I'm able to reproduce the problem on multiple computers with different hardware. The only thing they have in common is that we are running on Windows 7 Ent SP1 x64 French. We also have some old NVidia Quadro 2000d, some NVidia GeForce GTX 970, etc. with the latest driver version. My steps to reproduce the problem are the same as you Laszlo Branda. However, I was also able to crash Maya trying to click on one of the menu of Maya on top of the screen instead of trying to modify one of the values in the numeric channel box. In addition, I'm able to reproduce the problem on a new freshly installed computer. So I sure like to know how to correct this?

Quick fixes you can try are to not use the most recent driver but use the one on our certified hardware list.

Hi Sean, I just did the test. I installed the "TESTED" driver version for Maya 2018 Update 4, 398.82, for a NVidia GTX 1080. And it doesn't change anything. As soon as I do a Ctrl + z, or simply click on one of the menu on top of the screen, Maya crash.

If so, please fill it out and let me know what the CER Report number is.

Also, does the Output Window show anything when it crashes and or is there a crash log?

Hi All,

I gave it a try. I've downgraded my video card's driver. (Windows 10, NVIDIA GTX 760). It was not the most recent driver but newer than the suggested, certified one (382.33). Unfortunately it didn't helped. Maya crashed after undo. (Also I've found another problem. In the Hypershade the "Delete Unused Nodes" didn't work, so I reinstalled Maya 2018 with its previous Update 3.) Now everything work fine.

Check: \Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Temp Yes it create a log file in my temp folder. I included the log file in question.

Note: The test was done on a old Lenovo ThinkStation S30 with a NVidia Quadro 2000 video card. But the same problem appears on NVidia GTX 970, NVidia GTX 1080, etc. With every driver I get the same result.

I was able to reproduce the crash so I've attached my crash log and yours to a report and passed it along to the dev team so they can begin to work on a fix!
