cannot open Maya 2018

My student version of Maya 2018 no longer opens on my computer, and I can't tell why. It's been functioning flawlessly for three months, but I when I went to run it this morning it stopped responding. Whenever I try to open it, I get this error message:

Cannot find procedure "MTsetToggleMenuItem".

MTsetToggleMenuItem (command window: line 1).

Have tried clean uninstall and reinstall, with no success. I have the most recent version of Maya 2018 downloaded, and Windows 10 is up to date. My licence is still active, as far as I can tell. I'm on a Surface Book 2, with 16GB RAM and 64-bit system. Please help, I'm at a total loss.

Hi!

Try a reset of your preferences.
Rename the folder prefs in folder 2018 to something like prefs_backup, or to reset everything, the folder 2018 to 2018_backup (or even the maya folder to maya_backup). Maya creates new folders (don't copy preferences from previous Maya versions). Detailed at:
