Maya - Fatal error (Attempting to save...)

Hi team,

Hoping to get some help with Maya as I had it crash while working on a scene and now when I went to open it back up I keep getting a fatal error which says 'Attempting to save in .... Temp folder'.

I’ve tried deleting Maya and installing Maya 2019, tried opening Maya 2017. I updated my drivers and even renamed the temporary folder naming convention and I can’t troubleshoot the issue. I’ve looked up a few forums online and tried what they’ve recommended and haven’t had any luck.

Is anyone encountered this issue and can provide any options to fix it?

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!

When you get a chance can you try opening your Maya.env file found in your Maya 2017/2018/2019 folder and add this to it:

MAYA_DISABLE_OPENCL=1

There was also a similar issue found in this thread.

The solution there was to delete a dll file which I don't recommend doing until you've tried my above step and back up the files as changing dll files can cause issues with your machine

Here's the solution text from that thread :

C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\igdlh64.inf_amd64_250db833a1cd577e )

This Dll file seemed to confuse Maya if there is a GPU or not.

So if there's someone who has this same issue, try to delete igdrclneo64.dll first!!

First always update your graphics drives first and then retry Maya. If that doesn't work then try the following.

After Maya crashes it produces a crash log. It can be found at C:\Users\YOUR_USER_PROFILE_NAME_GOES_HERE\AppData\Local\Temp. It'll be called MayaCrashLogXXXXXX_XXXX.txt Where the X's are a timestamp of when it crashed.

Mine looked like this:

Fault address: 7D0FA92B in C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\ki130624.inf_amd64_d85487143eec5e1a\ig9icd64.dll

For me, I moved ig9icd64.dll out of the folder and put it on my desktop for backup purposes. After restarting Maya it didn't crash anymore but I got a color warning dialog. If you get this you can just go into Windows->Settings/Preferences->Preferences and click on the Display section. Next, scroll down until you see Rendering engine and change it to DirectX 11. Now Maya should be fine.

I'm trying your fix, but when I get to the location you've specified I have a bunch of folders and 3 files - none of which are named Maya.env. I have updated my graphics drivers. I'm on the student version, 2019.

I finally found my Maya.env file (unusual location) and added this line and it worked.

MAYA_DISABLE_OPENCL=1

also if I did find it, where on it would I add the line?

every time I try create Shari system for a second time - its fatal crash?

1. Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System
2. Click "Advanced System Settings"
3. Go to "Advanced" tab, then click "Enviroment Variables"
4. The first section "User variables for <your user>" - click New...
5. Variable name = MAYA_DISABLE_OPENCL
Variable value = 1
6. Click "Ok"

I did this steps and it worked for me.

I just realized that I was searching in the wrong spot, so I search in window > system32 for the file ig9icd64.dll and nothing was found. please help me

I do have Fatal error, but I don't have the ig9icd64.dll. I tried to navigate it, but couldn't find it.

How can I fix it? I am using Maya 2022. Thank you,
