Maya Cursor Issue-Size effects Position of Pivot

This is a problem I haven't seen before. When I increase the cursor size while editing the pivot the manipulator changes position(compare the blue z axis line in the side orthographic view in both images). This is problematic when trying to line your pivot with the angle of an object. Is there a setting to prevent the manipulator from hopping away from the pivot center when increasing its size?

What version of Maya are you working with and is it up to date?

Also what happens if you change the size of the pivot before trying to edit the position/rotation of the pivot?

Oh yes I forgot to add that for you guys- Maya 2016 Extension 2.

In the regular rotate/translate/scale mode when I increase the size of the cursor it doesn't do the same problem, however, when in edit pivot mode if I increase the size it happens. Here is what is interesting: the first few increments of increase it stays locked down but by the third or fourth increase it hops off its center and gets further and further away with each increase. This happens in both orthographic and perspective views. It seems to be that there is some setting turned on that I may not be aware of because if I take the shape and export it into a new scene as an obj the issue does not happen-but when I re-open that same scene I try again it happens as before. It would be nice to know what could be causing this because it can be painstaking taking each object out as an export that I need to adjust its pivot. If you have any ideas what could be causing this problem it would be appreciated! Thanks for the help.

Thanks for that info!

I just tried to reproduce this but the pivot just scaled like normal and didn't show any issues. You could try opening the move, rotate and scale tools and hit Reset Tool on them to see if that works otherwise you may want to try deleting your settings/preferences.

Apologies for the late response- deleting preferences did not work unfortunately so I just figured it was something to do with the scene. I exported out the objects I needed to adjust and fixed their pivots in a fresh scene and re-imported. It would be nice to figure out where the issue lies since it could become problematic if it were to happen in a bigger scene. Thanks for the suggestions though and hopefully someone else sees this and has run into the same dilemma.
