Just wanted to say thank you Autodesk for adding this pricing tier. I was in the process of moving my workflow over to Blender but now I can continue using Arnold and Xgen! I hope Autodesk keep this tier for awhile and not a limited time.

I hope they want to expand the offer to the European market. I really love Maya and as a student I'm happy to purchase it for 20-30 euro per month.

At the moment I can't afford to pay 250 euro for a single month.

Hope the best for this commercial action 😄

I don't get why they are releasing it as a 'pilot' program, limiting it to one year and restricting it to certain countries when it is more likely that users from other countries might be more open to embracing Maya Indie, considering that most Indies and Freelancers wouldn't see more than 100k USD pa for a long time.

Ah crap I didn't realise it was limited to a year 😞 I agree it hits the spot for indies. If I ever earned 100k I would gladly pay full price. I do hope they get a lot of interest and continue indie pricing after the trial.

Hi,

We wanted to test the interest for an Indie product before finalizing the offering. We have tried several options in the past such as Maya LT and Maya PLE so we wanted to better understand the demand and test the pricing to see what the whether we are in the right ball park. If this is successful we will be rolling it out more broadly. We chose English speaking countries so we could deploy the pilot more quickly and easily. We realize this is not ideal and that because it is a pilot there are some kinks in the system so I apologize for that. The most important thing to remember is that for now make sure you turn off auto-renew if you purchase the Indie version - this is a precaution - of course I hope is that this offering is popular and we will be able to make it a permanent so you will be able to renew at Indie prices (autorenew is the default setting of the Autodesk e-store)

And I`m convinced most others also use the english version...so this cannot be the reason for excluding most of europe.

And its rather easy to guess what AD would have to do to stay competetive:

- adjust the freelancer pricing to the one of houdini

- remove bugs

- make Maya fast

- add new up to date functionality

- stay ahead of the competitors (...ok, I know this is tough...)

They are with Maya on a good way to catch up,

and IMHO the tested price is really really low. (You pay more for a renderer like Vray and it's only the same like Substance)

And I like what I saw about Bifrost, a new modern approach.

Even Rome wasn't built within one day...

All the Best...

I know this is just a pilot, but please consider rolling this out to other regions as soon as possible. I was excited to buy it when I heard the news yesterday, and I felt terrible that I couldn’t. As a student version user, I really want to start selling my work commercially and In the past two weeks I have been trying out different software that I can afford. I want nothing more than to use Maya, but I’m scared that if it takes too long to roll out, I’ll have to commit to other software instead. If language really is the only reason why it hasn’t been rolled out to other countries, could you please make Maya Indie language-locked rather than region-locked? The responses on social media suggest that I’m not the only person who feels this way.

Can we expect the program to open up to more countries in the coming days/weeks if it is a success or is it going to take longer than that? I keep refreshing the Indie page every day now to check if my region is finally eligible, but I don’t want to keep getting my hopes up if the program’s success is only going to be determined months from now.

With different countries and regions there's a host of legal issues to consider, which have to be gone through with a fine tooth comb to avoid potential problems and exploits.

And just because there's an auto-renewal to a full-cost license now that's not a guarantee the full release (if there is one) will be the same. It may very well end up the same as the Fusion 360 licensing, which has yearly renewals even for the free hobbyist licenses.

Exactly, most of the people using your software can speak english. I don't know if you're aware more and more people are kinda pissed and so they are trying out Blender, which is free and got better and easier. I don't think it's better in terms of rigging and animation, but since I don't have an access to indie license, I have to go with Blender too. Kinda shame, hope it will change soon, because my money's on Maya.

The offer is so competitive that it shocked me at first. I even exclaimed "Autodesk is going to shake the industry to it's core." but then I saw the price proviso. From the people I have talked to that don't use Maya or Max and and don't particularity care for Autodesk, many of them said at that price they would get it just to have it in there arsenal even if they didn't use it. The problem is the unpredictability of the offer and to be perfectly honest Autodesk has a reputation, fair or not, for having a money grab mentality. I think this makes many people apprehensive about the offer because they fully expect it to be at full price within a year without question. What they really want is a reasonable price and certainty that it doesn't escalate dramatically year to year. Lets not pretend that at $250 a year and a guaranty of reasonable price increases year to year that this offer wouldn't be popular. I think anyone doing 3D even those that hate Autodesk would at least have to seriously think about the offer.
