probably better to run it natively on the MAC OS since you are using MAC hardware

I have a Mac and would like to install Maya. Is it better to run Maya on Mac OS or to run Windows on a Mac using parallels or other virtual machine programs?

Going off of what DarrenP said, yea, definitely better to run it natively vs a virtual machine, because you will incur a performance hit on a virtual machine. That being said, if you really wanted to run it on Windows, you can use Apple's Boot Camp to install Windows directly on your Mac along side your OS X install. This will make it so you can boot your Mac into OS X or Windows natively.
