Right Click Menu not appearing

I’m new to Maya, so please forgive my lack of knowledge when it comes to menu/area names! When I right click, the menu that should show above the mouse does not. It’ll work for an extended period of time, and then it will only show the usual “select, select all” etc menu rather than the menu that allows me to change to faces, edges, etc. Why is this happening and how can I fix it? I’m on a MacBook Pro, using a Wacom Intous Pro tablet, and using Maya 19.2. I’ve tried right clicking/right clicking and holding on both. Shift and right click works, but not regular right click. Please help!

EDIT: it seems to do this mostly in Top view, if that helps
