topic Making one object look like another? in Maya Forum

In Maya, I'm using the Shape Editor. I'm trying to make one object look like another object. For example, let's say I have two objects, one square, one rectangle. I want to make the square look like the rectangle.

I'm just a little confused on how the Shape Editor works exactly. I think that to make the square look like the rectangle, I have to apply a Target Shape. I'm just not sure how to apply a Target Shape.

How do I go about applying Target Shapes to make this happen? Or is there another way?

Hi!

Shape Editor:

1. Select first object, Create Blend Shape

2. Select second object, Create -> Add selection as Target.

However the objects have need to have the same vertex order.

It's sometimes easier if you use

2 Create Target and then edit the target until you are satisfied with your target shape.

Okay, so I've figured out how to use the Blend Shapes, but another problem is occuring... Is there a way to make the Blend Shape change the shape without moving the position?

Hi!

By default it does not move the position.

If it does then there is something wrong either at the object or the settings you chosen for

Add (Selection as) Target.

Check your object and check the Maya online help for further details about your options.
