Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! When you say importing, are you trying to import textures via file > Import? If so, the error is as expected as there are only specific file types that can be imported into Maya.

If you are bringing the file in through another method, could you tell me what steps you are doing so I can reproduce it locally? 🙂 Also, to give the full picture, what is your end goal with your current project?

Thanks again for being a part of our community!

Thank you so much for your reply.

I'm importing it through file>import, I have not tried any other method for this.

Basiclly I'm trying to import Eisko Louise Model ( https://www.eisko.com/louise/virtual-model) in MAYA 2020.

I've imported all its files except exr files to add textures, I can't import it. It is giving error.

When i import the file, for example I want to import "example.exr" and I select the file and in file types, there is no file type called as "exr" so it selects "all file types". filename extension is exr. and it does not recognise the file type when i import it

Hi @Anonymous

Perfect! 🙂 Thank you for clarifying. Texture files do not need to be imported, just the scene file. As long as you are using a Project Folder and storing the texture files in the Source Images sub-folder, Maya will automatically connect the EXR's for you.

Here's the process:

Start Maya

File > project window > New (name your project and save to any location, like your desktop)

a new project folder will be created. Within that Folder are sub-folders.

move your scene files (.ma, .mb, FBX, obj, etc.) into the Scenes sub-folder.

move your texture files (jpgs, exrs, pngs, etc.) into the Source Images sub folder.

There are other sub folders for things like Audio, rendered images, etc.

In Maya, go to File > Set Project Folder. Select your Project Folder (not the sub folders).

In Maya, go to File > Open and open your character file

the textures should automatically load with your character 🙂 (if they show all gray, press the 6 key to go into shaded mode).

Every time you want to work on this project, always set the Project Folder first. That way, Maya will maintain those connections and know where to look for them.

Let me know how it goes! Happy to assist further if need be.
