Maintenance Plans renewed before May 7th 2021

I was just told by my reseller that even if I renew my Maintenance Plan before May 7th(My actual renewal is May 5th) for Maya that I won't get any updates during the length of the contract. Is this true? I will not be switching to a Subscription. It's just that simple. If this is true what is the point of the Maintenance Plan?

None cause there is no maintenance anymore.

My understanding was that they could no longer be renewed after May 7th 2021. If it is renewed May 5th then shouldn't that Maintenance Plan be valid until May 5th 2022 considering it's a year contract?
