That doesn't work.

There torus doesn't move and the hairs are constrained to it... so the try to stay in place...

hello,

I'm trying to create a hairstyle similar to this:
http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net...=20151014163816

I've create the hairs but my problem is the hair band at the end of the hairs, I've created a polygon torus to do a test.
Now my problem is, how can I constrain the torus to the hairs so that when I move the head the hairs move and the torus move with them?

thank you

I've tried this,

- make the torus, passive collider

- through interactive playback set the hairs into the torus, and set start position > from current, and rest position > from current

- created a ik joint chain driven by one of the output curves

- parented the torus to the last joint of the chain

this works quite fine, but when moving around in interactive playback the hairs sometimes come out of the torus.

I think this is because they are attracted from the nucleus and "want" to be perfectly straight (not curved by the torus).

How can I get an effecte like the old rubber band constraint?

P.S. I've attached the scene

Perhaps you could use the component to component constraint approach from the help file listed above but before that...

-identify approximately the middle hair strand in the bunch

-then constrain the hair band torus/ring to it via a motion path

-kill one of the two motion path key frames (in or out) and then adjust the remaining motion path keyframe to adjust the hair band at the location you need it to be.

-(or go to the frame where the torus/ring lies on the dynamic curve at the position you want it at then break connection on the uValue attr.

-then for all the other hairs do the component to component nConstraint from the help file

not sure if this will work. Never tried it. But other than a nHair -> splineIK -> dynamic joint approach this is the only other way that comes to mind on attaching a primitive to an nHair.

Bad thing about this approach though is I do not think that the motion path constraint approach will solve for orientation. In other words, as the dynamic hair bends, the motion path constrained torus will not adjust its orientation to remain equal lateral to the bent curve. (I think)

So perhaps the spline IK joint approach would be best.
