Hey!

I recently started a new basic spaceship model in Maya. Now I'm stuck with the engines. it is very frustrating to achieve the flares behind the engines like in the pictures under this post. I tried houdini with the same bad result. Is there an easy way in Maya 2018 with Arnold or is there another trick?

Thanks for helping!

Timon

Hi!

Without knowledge about your setup it's impossible to say where the problem.

There is a wide variety how to create such an effect in a 3D software (animated textures, particles, fluids/volumes, even animated geometry)

Thank you for your reply!

It's a simple animated ship with an engine. I thought particles would be the best solution, but i wasnt able to get a flare effect with the Arnold renderer.

It would be awesome if you could describe a way how to get something like that. For an approach how something like that is implemented in typical sci-fi films, I would be very grateful.

Timon
