I have a non-student version of maya 2020 on my macbook pro. My current license was provided to me by my old job and has recently expired. I want to uninstall it and install a student version of maya as I am enrolled at school. I found 2 articles on the Autodesk website to cleanly uninstall the program but I've encountered issues with both options.

The first article I used is https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-uninstall-Maya-2020-on-macOS.html. When I followed this it said permission was denied in the terminal.

The second article I followed is https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Clean-uninstall-of-Autodesk-programs-on-a-Mac.html. When I followed this, I was able to get through the first 2 commands fine but on the 3rd command it gave me a password icon but when I tried to type in my password, it won't let me type anything below it or next to it.

I'm stumped as to what to do. I'm curious if I could delete the entire maya folder in the applications folder to uninstall and remove the program? I included the full error I get for the second article and a snippet from the first article since my pages document with the full error is not supported here.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble uninstalling Maya from your MacBook Pro. Uninstalling software can sometimes be a bit tricky, especially when encountering permission issues or password prompts. I'll try to help you with some suggestions to resolve the problem.

Regarding deleting the entire Maya folder in the Applications folder, it's not recommended to manually delete application files as it may leave behind leftover files and preferences that can cause issues in the future. It's best to follow the official uninstallation instructions provided by Autodesk.

Now, let's address the issues you mentioned with the articles you tried:

Permission Denied in Terminal: When you encountered the "permission denied" message in the Terminal while following the first article, it might be because you need administrative privileges to run the command. To ensure you have the necessary permissions, you can try running the Terminal as an administrator. Here's how:

Open Finder and navigate to Applications > Utilities.

Locate the Terminal application.

Right-click on Terminal and choose "Open as Administrator" or "Run as Administrator."

In the elevated Terminal window, try running the uninstall command again and see if it works.

Password Icon Issue: For the password icon issue you encountered with the second article, it's possible that the Terminal is still accepting your password even though it doesn't display any characters. When you type your password, make sure you type it correctly and press Enter/Return after typing it, even if you don't see any characters appearing. The password should still be recognized and processed by the system.

If the above suggestions don't resolve the problem, you can try contacting Autodesk Support directly for assistance. They can provide you with specific guidance for uninstalling Maya and may be able to help you with any licensing-related issues you're facing.

Remember, before installing the student version of Maya, make sure you have a valid student license and follow the installation instructions provided by Autodesk to ensure a smooth installation process.

I hope this helps, and best of luck with uninstalling Maya and installing the student version!
