J_oll good guess but it doesn't seem like it. MacOS has a bunch of keyboard shortcuts mapped with the option/alt key combos, of which most seem to get successfully overridden in Maya. Just not the e, u, i, n keys for some reason... It might be because those hotkeys access character accents options in macOS instead of specific special characters... I tried a bunch of different things with my keyboard settings (switching input sources, etc) none of which quite worked out. Ultimately I just decided to use a different hotkey for the command I was trying to get.

The problem doesn't happen in Maya 2016 with the same version of macOS, so I guess it's a little bug in Maya 2017. In any case, thanks for trying to help 🙂

For some reason Maya 2017 isn't registering Option + E as a valid hotkey but Option + anything else is. My hotkeys transferred over from 2016, so I can see the hotkeys still been assigned to the command. It just dines't work. its the only hotkey that doesn't.

This is the error I get when trying to re-assign Option + E.

" is not a valid hotkey.

You can only use letters, numbers or function keys, with or without modifier keys (Shift, Alt, etc.).

Again, this worked in 2016 and Option + any other letter works fine. For some reason its just Option + E thats not being recognized.

I'm working on a Mac OS Sierra, Maya 2017.

Thanks!

I am not a MAC user, but couldn't help thinking, is that keyboard shortcut mapped to ejecting your CD or something like that on a MAC? Could it be that your OS is getting in the way? Just a thought. Of course it could just be Maya being a pain with the most simple thing. As usual.

I'm having the same problem.

Can't assign 'alt + e' to my User Marking Menu because when I press that key combination, the hotkey editor reads it as a special character which is not a valid hotkey.

Any workaround for this, Autodesk??

I tried copy/paste from the existing command associated with that key combo, HIKPinRotate, but of course, Hotkey Editor just inputs 'cmd + C' and 'cmd + V' 😛
