topic Rigging the Body and the Head - Advice in Maya Animation and Rigging Forum

Hello, I am looking forward to start a new project. A character modelling and rigging, that is.

I am not new to those processes but I've practiced for sometime but Never did a full body + head rig. Although I did the head and the body separately. Therefore my question..

Would you suggest to rig a full character (body +head) in same Maya scene, right from the start (may it be too heavy to take for a general Mac book pro mid-2012, for example - any other common issues)

or

Would it be better (or the way I know) to rig head first and then join the body.

If you think that second choice would be preferable, please also explain the process of joining rigged head and body. Or rather suggest tutorial, articles and tag words to google.

The concern is that due to luck of experience I may find myself in situation where I do not know how to join the two.

kind.

It doesn't matter as long the whole rig is in one file. Personally, I create joints for the body first and then face. Later do the skinning and rigging altogether. As you mentioned you did these separately before, there is nothing new. Make sure the root joint of your head rig should be attached to the top neck joint of the body. As like that, the master controller of the head rig should completely follow the neck controller.

Thanks for generous advice I think there won't be one solution to my thread, therefore I will keep it open.
