https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/machining-discussions-forum/profile-cuts/m-p/6077420#M6778 I tried tuning off tangent propagation and the propagate along Z as well as picking just the edges I want as opposed to the face of the cut.  Nothing works to get just a single "U" shape cut on my part.  Do I need to create a separate sketch of what I want?
