Lighting Analysis Won't Show up in 3D Model

Hello,

I am working on the daylight analysis for a 19 story building in Revit 2019. I am able to analyze the model fine and have completed the following analyses:

- Illuminance Analysis (low)

- LEED v4 EQc7 opt 2 (high)

I can see the results in the floor plans just fine. However, I cannot see the results in the 3D model. I would like to create views with the results using the section box.

- I am using the 3D view labeled "3D View: _InsightLighting Model."

- I have the Default Analysis Display Style set to "LEED v4 EQc7 Op2 Results Style."

- Everything is turned on in the Analytical Model Categories

I looked online and went through videos and the help guide for Insight but I can't find anything on how to turn on the analysis in 3D view. It seems it is supposed to automatically shows once the analysis is run, but this is not the case for my model.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello.

As it can be costly (in terms of view refresh time) to generate a 3d view with all of the analysis results shown, we do not automatically generate results in any 3D views except for the current active view. Have you tried regenerating the run results with the desired 3D view active? FYI the most costly view refresh is if you use a points style ('..._pts'), so best to avoid those styles except for small models or detailed views.

Hi David, thanks for the help. Unfortunately if I generate the analysis results with the desired 3D view open, it still does not show the results in 3D.

I am guessing it is because the model is too big? In the past I haven't had issues with smaller buildings (2 stories or so). This one is 19 stories. I suppose that is why it won't generate.

Model size shouldn't matter. The main thing I can think of is that the 3d view has different Phase and/or Design Options settings than the results. Unfortumately, Lighting doesn't manage Phase of Design Options (next release, we hope), so you have to manage them manually. Check variations of Phase and Design Options in the 3D view to see if the results will show up.

Feel free to share the model if you want more detailed feedback.

There are no design options in the model. I checked the phase Filter, it is set to "Show Complete for Lighting." I tried changing it from "New Construction" to "Existing." Nothing changes.

Unfortunately I can't send the model because I can't distribute the information (members of the project had to sign an NDA).

Only other thing I can think of is that you have an old version of the Insight addin that had a problem with level filters, but that only affected schedules. Might also be an issue with the automatic hide of levels, so check the Analysis Display Settings in the 3d view after generating, and see if the levels are turned on.

I might be able to debug a bit more from the log file, which should be in <MyDocuments>\Autodesk\RevitDaylighting.

My computer recently got wiped so I had to reinstall the Insight app - I am using the latest version.

I turned on the levels and still don't see anything in 3D. 2D is still working fine.

I sent you an e-mail with my log file. Thanks for the help!

I figured out the issue. I had to turn on the levels and then analyze the 3D view again. Then check the box to show the floors I want. It is working now. Thanks for all your help!

Hmm, that's weird, but glad you figured it out.

By 'turn on the levels', do you mean check the 'visible' box in the Analysis Display Settings, or something else? Even if the 'visible' box is unchecked when you generate run results, the data should be there.

Originally I was generating the analysis while I had a floor plan open, then switching to the 3D view expecting to see results. I had to generate the analysis while I had the 3D view open. Then I had to check the levels in the analysis display settings. That option wasn't showing up for me until I re-generated the analysis with the 3D view open.

Hope that makes sense. It just wasn't very intuitive for me and the help guides didn't say I had to have the 3D view open when generating the analysis.

Re-reading back, that is what you were saying to do before, but my computer kept freezing trying to generate. I just had to walk away and let it go for a while. I also didn't know about checking the levels in the analysis display settings.

OK that makes sense.

The levels should be turned on by Lighting unless they are outside the vertical extents of a Section Box. Perhaps that feature got stuck in a weird state. Can you try turning on a Section Box for the 3d view and move the vertical extents and see if the levels turn off (not visible) outside the box verticals?
