I'm a little confused. Are these Content Center parts.... or are you just starting with a custom part template. If it is a custom part template, then the iLogic code is saved in the part. To get it to update, you probably are triggering off of some change or part save with an event trigger.

Hi, I am still using the 2022 version of Inventor Professional. I spent a long time back in 2016 creating a custom material library and I can not remember how I did anything now that I want to add more to it.

I copied over standard structural parts to my custom library like angles and flat bar and tube.

One of the customizations I am trying to do again is simply getting an iLogic code to already be in the part when I place from the content center. I have this done on all the parts I customized in 2016. The rule configures how the Bill of Materials looks for my preferences. For example, when I pick an equal leg angle, absolutely any size, and then choose the custom part option, and whatever length I decide, I just simply place it into my assembly and there is already an iLogic code within that part file. I unfortunately still have to double click into that part file and run the code manually for some reason but at least I dont have to make the code every single time I place from the content center.

Can someone please explain to me what I did almost 10 years ago!?

Hi Karthur,

These are Content Center parts. I copied families of standard structural shapes into my own custom library and then made minor edits like this iLogic rule.

In an Inventor assemly, I click "Place from Content Center" just like you would for any standard library parts. I pick whatever shape I need, select the correct size, always choose the "As Custom" Option, and then place it into the assembly. That newly placed part already has an iLogic code in it that I made in 2016 to customize the appearance of my BOM.

I just want to get that exact same iLogic code into a different structural shape which in this case is tube. I wasnt using a lot of tube in 2016 so i never configured it. Now I am so I want to add it to my custom material library and add the iLogic code to it like all my other parts but I cant remember how i did that!

I've never tried to embed the code into a content center part, but I guess you can. When you are authoring the part add in the rule and set the event trigger to run the rule based on a condition.

Thank you, I feel like I remember trying to set a trigger but it never worked. its worth trying this time around but this is still not my main concern. I want to embed the code in the content center like my other parts and I just cant remember how the heck I did it.

To add the ilogic rule to the part, look under the Manage>iLogic Panel, Add Rule.

Thanks, but I know how to use iLogic and add rules. I just dont know how to get that rule into a content center part before its even placed.

I'm pretty sure you can't have iLogic rules in content center parts. What are you trying to do? There may be another way.

I wish I could remember what I did but this is definitely the case. There is absolutely no difference between placing a part from the content center from a standard Inventor library or my custom library in terms of workflow. The only difference is that when I place an Angle, or Round Bar, or whatever, the part file ALREADY has a iLogic rule in it. Its definitely possible because I am currently doing it. I just need to remember how the heck I did this because I want to add tubing into my custom library. I can copy the standard library over to my custom one no problem, but remembering how to modify it to have the code in there is my problem.
