Hi everyone. I am a new user and also new for the these site. I have learned to use Inventor and Nastran. I have got finished some of the models and also results from these. No I have a simple beam model and I am trying to print out some readable results but.

How I can manage units from the results view? I have on top of the vief drop down box where I can select example "beam diagram" and I also got "beam moment end A-Y plane" and I also got grpahics with filled and colored fill and values too. But units for the values I have not got visible.

Because I have simple model it is easy to find out by calculated, but I would like to know where I have able to change and review its?

Displacement Ill got mm/ inc and also stress Ill got Mpa/Pa etc... but why not Beam diagrams?

Hi @jussin6 . Welcome to Inventor Nastran.

When the units are not shown, it is because Inventor is not programmed to show the units. Likewise, you will not be able to convert them.

The units will be the same as the unit system when the model was analyzed. Since the units for a moment are length * force, the units of the beam moment will be as follows:

Unit System

SI

Modified SI

English

CGS*

Length Unit

m

mm

in

cm

Force Unit

N

N

lbf

dyn

Units for Moment result

m*N

mm*N

in*lbf

cm*dyn

* Does anyone use CGS?

If you are unsure what units were used for the original analysis, you can locate the Nastran file (.nas) in the folder modelname\InCAD\FEA, open it with Notepad, and find the line "PARAM,UNITS,???". The length unit is given which corresponds to one of the unit systems above.

I guess if you really wanted to convert the results, you could change the unit system (the first or second branch of the model tree) and re-run the analysis.

I hope this help.

I have this same problem, but I find the solution not acceptable, since I also want print screens. Now an external party must believe that the units I painted on them are legit. Can it not be programmed to have the same slider as stress or displacements etc. That way I have control over the output and everyone can see the units.

Hi @rts762N5,

I will make sure that the developers are aware that the units are missing for the beam diagrams. Feel free to copy the labels I created (see "unit labels.zip" attached) and paste them onto your screen captures.

I will say that if your only concern is whether the external party trusts you have provided the proper units, you must have the best job in the world. 🙂
