topic Error when using Linear static analysis with preload in Inventor Nastran Forum

Hello everyone,

I'm going through a very peculiar kind of error while running Nastran-Incad Version 2018.2.1.428 coupled with Inventor 2018.3.2.

I'm trying a linear static analysis with bolt preload. The peculiar thing is that the analysis completes when the meshes are coarse. But when I try to do the same analysis with fine meshes at particular regions to get the better stress distribution values, I'm getting an error.

The analysis runs and completes but while creating the neutral file, the analysis just stops and I get the error that Inventor has crashed and cannot function anymore. But even after i click END PROGRAM, Inventor does not crash but the analysis just stays incomplete.

Has anyone experienced the same issue if yes, then how can I go around it.

thanks and regards

Prasanna.

Hi Prasanna,

Here are a couple of ideas?

Since it ran at one mesh size, it implies a problem with some element. Maybe a small change to the mesh size (or using a "Mesh Control" to adjust the mesh size in a desired location) could be a solution.

See the article Nastran analysis crashes during Prestress Normal Modes analysis. (This was for a different analysis type, so I do not know if the STRESSERROR parameter applies in your case or not.)

Otherwise, there could be some clues (such as error messages) in the .log file that would point to a problem and solution. (The .log file is located in the foldername with the model > InCAD > FEA.)

Hello,

thanks for the reply.

I was actually not clear in my explanation. When I said about fine meshes, I actually meant using mesh size control to improve the mesh in only certain areas but with mesh sizes of the order of 1 to 2mm.

But on the other side, the article which was linked in your reply actually had the answer.

I switched off the STRESSERROR in the parameters and the analysis ran without any hiccups.

Thanks and Regards

Prasanna
