Can I copy constraints from one part to another in Assembly

Hi all,

I'm putting together a basic front axle and need to do a movement analysis on it, the problem I'm encountering is I have missed some constraints on the lower arm that are on the top so the assembly wont move.

Can I copy the constraints into the other part tree ?

For some reason everything I try seems to bring up the relationship conflict error box and for the life of me I cant seen to figure it out.

Nope

Constraints will copy with/when copying parts but you can't just copy the constraint itself.

Im a bit stuck then as I just cant get any more constraints to work, any ideas would be great.

@Anonymous An iam file is worthless without also including the part (ipt,etc..) files it references.. iam files just link to the components and does not include them in itself.

Zip up all ipt and iam files and reattach..

You can use the Save As --Pack and Go to quickly gather up all files if its more than just a few.. (Have it skip libraries,etc..)

If you are getting errors when trying to create additional constraints you simply have ones that are conflicting and Inventor won't allow that without errors.. You can often times accept the error and then you can use the Red + (Design Doctor) to highlight which constraints are in conflict or just look in the relationships folder in the model browser to see which ones show an error.. Then just adjust as needed to ensure the constraints are possible/valid

Got it.. Now what can't you do?

Probably an issue with how you have constrained the steering arm locking movement.

so the 2 back mounts are grounded so the rest of the parts should move up and down to replicate a wheel going over a bump. Im sure its the lower arm or the lower hub end cap. It took so long to get to that point then it wouldnt move 😂

Steering arm is preventing motion. Mate 11 and 23 need to be changed.. That axis can't stay with the mating axis if/when it moves.. Suppressing 11 and 23 and then adding a mate on the rose ball axis to the knuckle axis seems to be sufficient.

Thank you so much i've just adjusted that and it works perfect. Now onto animation 🙄.

Another quick question if you dont mind, I'm just adding dimensions to a .dwg for a spoiler and I cant seen to get a measure of degrees it only seems to give me length, is there an easy way to do this.

Please post the dwg and ipt file and show a screenshot of where specifically you are trying to dimension an angle off of or clearly indicate in the drawing maybe with 2 leaders where your dimension selection points are so we can see exactly whats going on there too..

If you used an angle in the original sketch - you can probably retrieve that sketch dimension model annotation directly into the drawing view.
